In the Despicable Me movie we decided overall to rate it a 9/10. We rated it this because we enjoyed the theme of the movie and how nostalgic it felt. The theme of finding family and finding love in unexpected places is what led us for it to be one of our favorite nostalgic movies. Furthermore, it’s a great movie for families, children and adults. It carries deep themes, some that children wouldn’t understand, but it also carries soft themes that children can relate to more. The main events of Despicable Me include Gru, a villainous mastermind, adopting three orphans. Margo, Edith, and Agnes. He attempts to use them to help steal the moon, but during that process he realizes he cares about them more than he thought, and when it came to them or his villainous plan he chose them which made a significant impact on the relationship that they have, showing how he cares for them more than the thing he’s known for.
Moving on to smaller events that happened in the movie that we have really come to enjoy is when Gru is at the theme park with Agnes, Edith and Margo, he went there originally to leave them there after using them as a tool to help him steal the shrink ray. But as he spends time with them, he really learns to enjoy himself and learns how to have fun with the people that he cares about. This is what sparks the theme of family in Despicable Me, and shows that even the most despicable person can show emotion and still care for them, and that is why this is a smaller event but a very impactful one.
Another small event would include when Vector stole the Great Pyramid of Giza. This theft was considered the steal of the century, and it was said to be done by a mastermind. Gru wanted to surpass Vector’s theft and wanted to commit a much bigger, more impressive heist, which gave him the idea to take something he always wanted, The moon. His passion for the moon sparked when he was little. He was always talking about how much he loved the moon and how one day he would go there, but his mom never believed in him so he decided he would prove everyone wrong and take the moon for himself. This event created the rivalry between him and Vector, always competing with each other to see who could be the better villain.
Overall, Despicable Me balances humor, love, and adventure perfectly. Its themes of love, family, and change make it a timeless classic we’ll always enjoy.
