    Five Nights at Freddy’s

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has recently been released, and fans of the franchise have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Starring in the movie is: Josh Hutcherson, who plays the part of Mike Shmidt, and is well known for his role as Peeta Mellark in the  “Hunger Games” series, and Mathew Lillard stars in the role of William Afton, the iconic killer of the series. Elizabeth Lail plays Vannesa Afton, bearing close resemblance to how Vannesa looks in the Five nights at Freddy’s game “Security Breach.”

One of the things the movie did well was how it included the community. The movie had, not one, but two well known YouTubers in it. Perhaps the most famous FNAF theorist on YouTube is Mathew Patrick, better known as Matpat. He plays the role of a waiter at Sparky’s diner, where he drops his iconic line: “But that’s just a theory.” This was easily one of the best moments of the movie and gives me chills when I watch it.

Another famous YouTuber was Coryxkenshin. He appears as the driver for the taxi that Abby and golden Freddy get into towards the end of the movie. Coryxkenshin is a YouTuber, whose channel is based around gaming and reaction videos. While Coryxkenshin did a good job for the times he was obscene, I would have rather had someone more connected to the franchise take the role, such as Markiplier.

While the FNAF movie didn’t score very well with the critics, only getting a 28% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, it got an 88% audience score. The reason the FNAF movie scored so badly with the critics is that they were looking for a Horror movie. The FNAF movie was a thriller, opting more for spooky story-telling and settings rather than needless bloodshed. It also focused on really connecting to the rest of the franchise, with many iconic appearances, such as a life-size Ella doll and Sparky the Dog broken down in the parts and service room, or William Afton with his well known line, “I always come back”.

Even though many loved the movie and its easter eggs, There were some fans who felt the movie could have improved. For starters, more action could have helped the film, rather than the friendships between Abby and the animatronics we got for most of the movie. While the movie was PG-13, which limits the scare factor of it, they could have put in scenes with the animatronics actually attacking, rather than the ghosts attacking him in the dream.

With all that said, we still feel very happy with the movie’s release. The animatronics were done incredibly well, and the overall aesthetic of the pizzeria matched the games perfectly. Any true fan of the games will be very happy!
